It is NOT CONFIRMED whether Elijah's first son named John James Grove is indeed the same John James Grove who married Olive Simmons, but is considered very likely and listed here for further research. Elijah's will was proven on 13 June 1806.

In the Name of God amen, I Elijah Grove of Wolverley in the County of Worcester Butcher being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding do make publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say first I will and direct that all my just debts and funeral Expenses be fully paid and satisfied by my Executors hereinafter appointed and I do will and require my said Executors immediately after my decease to sell and dispose of all my Stock household Goods furniture and personal Estate except what is hereinafter specifically disposed of and to collect get in and receive all monies due or in any wise belonging to me and whereas I did several years ago purchase a Messuage farm and lands called or known by the name of Cleehouse Estate situate and being in Oustlisse in the parish of Wolverley aforesaid which was settled upon me Nancy my present Wife and the heirs of our bodies subject to the payment of the Sum of four hundred pounds to Mr. Joseph Steward deceased which Sum and the Interest thereof I have long since paid off and discharged Now I do give and bequeath the said Sum of four hundred pounds due and owing to me upon and from the said Estate unto between and amongst all and every my several Children by my Present and former wives excepting my Son Samuel who will be entitled to the said Estate after the decease of my Wife Nancy Grove equally share and share alike and to their respective Executors or Administrators in Case of their or other of their deaths And I do hereby direct that my said Son Samuel or such other of my children that may become entitled to the said Estate to raise and pay thereout the said Sum of four hundred pounds accordingly Also I give and bequeath unto my Son John Grove the leasehold Estate and premises situate and being in Wolverley aforesaid And now in my own possession which I rent and hold under the loan and chapter of Worcester and all the Straw and Manure that may remain or be thereon at the time of my decease to hold to my said Son John for all my Estate and Term therein Subject nevertheless to and charged and chargeable with the payment of the Sum of two hundred pounds to my son Benjaminwithin Six months next after my decease And I do will and require my said Son John to raise the said sum of two hundred pounds by and out of my said leasehold Estate and to pay the Same to my said Son Benjamin accordingly and my will and desire is that my wife Nancy Grove may live and reside with my said Son John upon the said leasehold Estate and be maintained boarded and taken Care of by my said Son John and that he may be paid for the same by and out of the Rents and Profits of the said Cleehouse Estate which my said Wife will be entitled to during the term of her natural life Also I give and bequeath to my daughters Elizabeth the Wife of William Boucher and Catherine the Wife of James Boucher and to my sons Elijah and Thomas the several sums of One hundred pounds each and as to my daughter Nancy and Sons Samuel and Joseph I do not leave them any specific legacy they being already provided for Also I give and bequeath unto my Executors hereinafter named the sum of One hundred pounds upon Trust to put the same out as Interest and pay and apply the Interest or the said Principal sum of One hundred pounds unto and for the benefit of my son Edward at such time and times and in such shares and proportions manner and form as they my said Executors shall in their discretion think fit and proper and not otherwise and also for and concerning all the Rest and Residue of my monies goods Chattels personal Estate and Effects and all my real Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and not otherwise by this my will given and disposed of as aforesaid I give devise and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto between and amongst my several Children Elizabeth Elijah Catherine Thomas and Joseph equally share and share alike as Tenants in Common and not as joint Tenants and to their respective Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever and I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Son John Grove and my son in law William Boucher Joint executors of this my Will hereby revoking and making void all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be my last will and testament and my will is and I do hereby direct my said Executors to pay and discharge the aforesaid several legacies not at any other time or times directed to be paid in manner following that is to say One half part thereof at the End of one Year next after my decease and the other half part thereof at the End of two years next after my decease and my will is and I do hereby declare that my said Executors or either of them their or either of their Executors or Administrators shall not be charged or chargeable with or answerable or accountable for any more monies and Effects than they respectively shall actually receive or come to their respective hands or possessions by virtue of this my will nor with or for any Loss or Losses which shall or may happen to the same or any part thereof so as such Loss happen without their or with or of their wilfull default or neglect nor shall the one of them be answerable or accountable for the other of them or for the Executors Administrators Acts deeds Defaults Receipts or disbursements of the other of them but each of them for himself and his own Executors Administrators Acts deeds defaults Receipts and disbursements only and also that it shall and may be lawful to and for my said Executors and the survivor of them his Executors and Administrators in the first place by and out of the aforesaid monies and Effects to deduct and reimburse himself and themselves all such Sums of money costs Charges damages and Expenses as they or either of them shall or may sustain pay expend or be put into for or by Reason or means fo the Trusts hereby in their reposed or the management or Execution of this my Will or any other matter cause or thing in any wise relating thereunto In Witness whereof I the said Elijah Grove the Testator have to this my last will and Testament written upon three sheets of paper to the first two sheets thereof set my hand and to the last my hand and seal this fourth day of July in the thirty Seventh year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third … And in the year of our lord One thousand Seven hundred and ninety seven – Elijah Grove – Signed Sealed published and declared by the above named Elijah Grove the This is my full and sole desire that my Son Samuel Grove shall pay the 400 pounds within mentioned to be shared amongst his Brothers and Sisters share and share alike witness my hand – Elijah Grove

The above named Elijah Grove the Testator do by this writing which I direct to be taken as a codicil to and part of my Will above written subject and charge my leasehold Estate and premises held under the Lean and Chapter of Worcester with the payment of the further Sum of two hundred pounds which said sum of two hundred pounds I do hereby direct my son John Grove to whom I have by my said will given and bequeathed the said Leasehold Estate to raise thereout and to pay apply and dispose of the same in ???? and Interest of the Rest and Residue of my monies personal Estate and Effects mentioned in my said will and I do hereby give and bequeath unto my said son John Grove one full equal sixth part of all the Said Rest and residue of my said monies Goods chattels personal estate and Effects to ??? as aforesaid and as is mentioned in my said will and the other first sixth parts thereof to my five children Elizabeth Elijah Catherine Thomas and Joseph as in my said Will mentioned and in all other Respects I do hereby ratify and confirm my said will in witness whereof the said Elijah Grove the Testator have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of July One thousand Seven hundred and ninety seven – Ely Grove – Signed sealed published and declared by the above named Testator Elijah Grove as and for a codicil to be taken as part of his will above written in the presence of us who as well in his presence as in that of each other have subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto – Fra~ Homfray – Jos. Whereas I Elijah Grove of Wolverley in the County of Worcester Butcher have by my last will and testament directed my Executors therein named to pay certain legacies therein mentioned one half part thereof at the End of one year and the other half part thereof at the End of two years next after my decease Now it is my will and desire that such legacies so directed to be paid as aforesaid shall be paid and payable by my said Executors within one year next after my decease and in every other Respect I do hereby confirm my said will in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal and published and declared this to be another codicil to my said will this fourteenth day of September One thousand Eight hundred and four – Elijah Grove –

This will was proved at London with three Codicils on the thirteenth day of June in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and Six before the Right Honourable Sir William Wynne Knight Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the prerogative Court of Cantebury lawfully constituted by the oath of John Grove and William Boucher the Executors named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods Chattels and Credits of the deceased they having been first sworn by Commission duly to ad~
